Department Programs Overview
The MA in Human Development and Social Intervention at New York University (NYU) Steinhardt seeks to prepare students to understand social, cognitive, emotional, and health development across the lifespan within cultural and socioecological contexts. It emphasizes practical skills of research design and methods, grant writing and grant management, and program development and evaluation from a community psychology perspective. Particular focus is placed on action research programs and prevention research projects. Students are prepared to pursue careers as research project directors, research coordinators, grant writers, research scientists and program evaluators in university, community-based, and private industries.

The Department of Applied Psychology houses four main centers: (1) the Child and Family Policy Center; (2) the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior, and Prevention Studies; (3) the Center for Research on Culture, Development, and Education; and (4) the Institute for Human Development and Social Change. In addition, the department's computer and measurement laboratories are multipurpose resources for student and faculty use. The measurement laboratory houses a collection of educational and psychological tests and reference books containing critical reviews of tests. Also housed in the laboratory are reference books on measurement, research, and statistics.
